the Wellton-Mohawk valley of Southwest Arizona. Seeds West
Roll has a modern bermudagrass seed conditioning plant, a seed coating
plant for application of the exclusive Pennington Penkoted locked-on
seed treatment, and packaging facility to package seed for wholesale
and retail distribution.

two main products handled at this facility. We also custom

Angeles. The majority of our export containers are loaded
and shipped from Seeds West El Centro.
Located
between Seeds West Roll and Seed West El Centro is the Seeds West
Sales Office and Distribution Warehouse in Yuma, Arizona.
Seeds West Yuma provides bermudagrass and warm season turfgrass
marketing, sales, and technical support to our distributors.
The Seeds West Yuma Distribution Warehouse is used to store packaged
seed for shipment.
Our
primary product, bermudagrass, is a warm season perennial grass
that has origins in Africa and Southeast Asia. Bermudagrass is an
extremely versatile grass that establishes readily from seed.
Once established, it spreads via stolons across the soil surface
and below the soil surface via underground stems or rhizomes.
It is very drought and wear tolerant. The majority of the
bermudagrass seed sold around the world is used for turfgrass such
as home lawns and parks in the semi-tropical and tropical regions
of the world.
Seeds
West is recognized as one of the leaders in the development, production,
sales and marketing of Certified turf-type bermudagrass varieties.
In 1989, Seeds West released NuMex SAHARA, the first improved seeded
bermudagrass variety ever developed exclusively for turf.
Over the years, the demand for seeded turf-type bermudagrass varieties
has grown. Pennington Seed, Inc. and Seeds West, Inc. have
made a commitment to ongoing research and development of improved
turf-type bermudagrass varieties and other warm season turfgrass
species from seed. The Seeds West Warm Season Turfgrass Research
Program has continued to develop and release new varieties with
improved turf characteristics such as darker green color, finer
leaf texture and increased turf density for better wear tolerance
and overall turf performance.
The
Seeds West Warm Season Turfgrass Research Program conducts research
in Maricopa, Arizona. The research program has released many top
performing Certified varieties since 1989 including NuMex Sahara,
Sonesta, Primavera, Sultan brand (FMC-6), Sydney, and Princess 77.
Also produced and marketed by Seeds West, Inc. are the Cheyenne,
Yuma, Mohawk and Panama bermudagrass varieties.
Seeds
West also develops and produces improved turf-type buffalograss
(Buchloe dactyloides) varieties for turf and erosion
control. Buffalograss is one of the few grasses believed to be native
to North America. Named for the bison or buffalo that roamed
the Great Plains and grazed on this hardy grass, buffalograss has
an extensive range of adaptation. It has been found growing
from Mexico to Canada. It is a warm season perennial grass
that is sod forming via above ground stolons. Once established,
buffalograss is a very heat and cold tolerant grass that may be
mowed for a manicured lawn look or left unmowed or mowed infrequently
for a natural prairie appearance. Certified turf-type buffalograss
varieties such as Cody and Certified buffalograss blends such as
Buffalo Pals offer the hardy characteristics of buffalograss along
with improved turf characteristics such as improved color and turf
density.
For
forage and pasture applications, we offer Cheyenne, our forage specific
bermudagrass variety, Giant bermudagrass ( Cynodon dactylon,
var. aridus) and bermudagrass pasture mixtures such as Ranchero
Frio and Tierra Verde. Giant bermudagrass is the seeded alternative
to Coastal bermudagrass. With proper management, it produces
substantial nutritive hay for cattle and horses. We also sell
Certified Piper sudangrass, non-dormant alfalfa (Medicago
sativa ) varieties such as Cibola and CUF 101and other warm
season grasses such as Bahiagrass (Pennesetum notatum)
and Weeping Lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula).
